Aujourd’hui facile facile

Soon I will have lived almost as long outside of the UK as I lived in it. Sometimes I feel it’s a place I recognise less and less: a rudderless brash society where individualism instilled first under Thatcher continues to undermine some of the best qualities once associated with the country.

Popping to the shop I am amazed by the sheer volume of available “convenience” food on sale. Extra ease of living is great, but is it really easier to go to a supermarket to buy jars of pre-packed babymush complete with additives than it is to apply a masher to your home-cooked veggies?
