Aujourd’hui enfant

May 15, 2012 § Leave a comment

It was a matter of time before the demands of child-rearing would clash with the expectations of an ‘available all hours’ work culture: whatever the individual’s rights and formal commitments to ‘family-friendly’ work practice. But a young child simply can not be left alone at home. So like many others before me, today I have to walk out at a ‘critical’ professional moment; rush home; feed child; then back to finalising something for work that should never have become ‘urgent’ by phone and remote IT connection late into the evening.
